What to Bring Hunting

Clothing & Equipment

“I hate getting cold and wet, so I will endeavour to see that you do not either.”

Strong, comfortable, ankle supported boots with strong Vibram soles and spare laces. Meidel and Kenetrek brands are good places to start, think "Mountain Boots”.
Day Pack – not too big, enough for lunch, rain gear, binos, camera, etc.
Waterproof coat – Gore-Tex or Entrant shells are ideal.
Polar or micro-fleece top, wind-stopper.
Polyprop singlet or micro-fleece t-shirt. Please no jeans. Snow gaiters – not about snow, it is to stop brush and boot lace tangles.
Socks – woolen.
Please ensure you have CLEAN HIKING BOOTS! NZ Customs will check for outdoor foot wear and there is a $NZ500 fine for not declaring outdoor footwear and it gets worse if footwear contains debris in the soles.
Hat, woollen gloves, scarf – always keep in day pack.

Other than Hunting Stuff

Rifle

You are most welcome to bring along your favourite rifle. Please make your calibre is not less than .25. A rifle can be supplied to you for US$100 for the hunting duration. For Rifle Permit refer to the Firearms Licence Information in this website.

Remember you have to carry it all day.

Bows

Gerald is an experienced bow hunter. We welcome guided bow hunting.

Aim to shoot up to 50 yards (45 meters) with your bow. Refer to the Bow Page for further equipment requirements.

All spot and stalk hunting.

Sorry, no mechanicals. Fixed broad heads only.
