Fallow Bucks rut in the first couple of weeks in April, just as the Red Stags are mellowing out the Fallow rut ramps up. A mature Buck may only weight 160-190lbs but don’t let their size deceive you! Fallow bucks are extremely aggressive in the rut. Fallow to Fallow battles are common as is the sound of clashing antlers.
A large variation in the colour phases of the bucks often means that one trophy buck is not enough! Their usual colour is ginger to tan with black halos around distinctive white spots, melanistic (black/ chocolate) are masters of the shadows with their two-tone black/grey tones. White, while often easier to locate, doesn’t make them any less weary than their cousins.
